David Hunter

University of Edinburgh

David Hunter, a former electronics design engineer and secondary school teacher from Edinburgh University, applied to Converge Challenge 2013 with his then project, Caddie Charger – a mobile charging device for golfers powered by a golf trolley battery. During the subsequent training, David identified new business opportunities which led him to re-enter with Shot Scope in 2014, reaching the final 6!

“Our business plan jumped up a few levels after the workshops – it was like night and day! The training forced you to have a really in-depth look at your business plan, but also gave you the skills to tweak it and improve it.”

Shot Scope is a smart performance tracking wearable that automatically collects score, statistics and analytics relating to golf. Golfers simply wear a wristband and play! The technology works in the background to detect the exact position of every shot played.

In 2015, David secured Scottish EDGE funding, a SMART: SCOTLAND grant and was accepted to the prestigious Royal Society of Edinburgh Enterprise Fellowship scheme. He has built a strong board and management that includes industry experts and operational team of 20 based in Edinburgh.

The Shot Scope performance tracking system is now available to buy from shotscope. com. Following a successful pre-order campaign Shot Scope was released for general sale in September 2016 and sold into 22 different countries within four weeks. In 2016, Shot Scope was used by professional golfers on the European and Ladies European tour including the prestigious Dunhill Links played at St Andrews.

In 2017, Shot Scope released their pioneering new V2 GPS Watch which features shot tracking and three modes to suit different playing environments. The team also exhibited at the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, Florida and were an official sponsor of the Scottish Golf Awards in Edinburgh.
