Co-founded in 2013 by Derryck Reid and two members of his Heriot-Watt University research group, Christopher Leburn and Carl Farrell, Chromacity is a prime example of a spin-out company that has gone on to achieve great success!
Having won third prize in Converge Challenge 2012 to help commercialise their research on ultrafast lasers for biological microscopy, they then spun out of the university in 2013. Christopher is the Managing Director and was awarded a prestigious Royal Society of Edinburgh Enterprise Fellowship in 2013 to better understand how to develop and grow the company as swiftly as possible.
“We couldn’t have done it without Converge Challenge! We wouldn’t have dedicated the time that you’re forced to dedicate as part of the competition. Converge Challenge gave us the confidence to take the next step and incorporate a company that now delivers products across the world.”
Since then, the company has secured two rounds of funding, totalling ~£9000,000 investment, led by EOS Technology Investments Syndicate, which has enabled them to bring to market a wide range of cutting edge ultrafast laser products. This has been achieved by growing the team, expanding manufacturing capabilities and delivering growth in sales.
The Chromacity team will be exhibiting at Photonics West BiOS conference and exhibition in early 2018 to highlight their latest products. With a distribution network across USA, Japan, Australia, Singapore, South East Asia, and Germany the company is fast becoming the well recognised within the photonics marketplace.
