Susanne Mitschke, CEO of MindMate, a leading platform designed to help people with cognitive decline fight memory loss, cofounded the business in 2015 whilst studying at the University of Glasgow.

The MindMate app includes a number of daily activities to make a real difference to people living with Alzheimer’s or Dementia by providing interactive games to stimulate the user’s cognitive abilities.

After completing the Strathclyde Enterprise Pathway programme, the team went on to secure multiple awards, including Scottish Institute for Enterprise (SIE) Young Innovator’s Challenge, Scottish EDGE Young EDGE and our KickStart Digital Entrepreneur Award.

In 2016, they gained NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde as a paying customer, raised $200,000 in a pre-seed investment round from Potential VC, and jointly won Converge Challenge. They were also the first EVER Scottish business to be accepted on to the Techstars Accelerator in New York.

“Having gone through several competitions and world-leading startup accelerator programmes, I can say that Converge really makes a difference. The bootcamp is fantastic to get to know your business better, make friends with other entrepreneurs and get introduced to the world of running your own business.”

In 2017, the team started to work with the leading not-for-profit hospital provider in the USA, which is implementing MindMate in two of their flagship studies around cognitive decline. This will help clinically prove the benefits of their product.

In the same year, MindMate shifted it's business model from the care home market to a mobile-first patient research platform, which is matching patients to open clinical trials. The team is now serving several pharmaceutical companies and clinical research organisations with their patient recruiting program and also won New York University and the University of Texas as a client.

In addition, their app was part of an intervention based study for early alzheimer’s patients conducted by University of Glasgow. The study showed that subjects who used MindMate are more independent in their daily live and even improved cognitive abilities.

in 2018, MindMate raised $2MM from Launch Capital, Mucker Capital, PLG Ventures and Locke Mountain Ventures. The app has been ranked #1 health app in Apple’s App Store in 17 countries.
