novosound, led by founder and CTO, Dave Hughes, were crowned the Converge Challenge 2017 winners for their revolutionary printed ultrasound imaging technology that will enable expectant parents to see their unborn child with the image quality of MRI.
The sensors, systems and software allow for low cost, high-resolution imaging and measurement that will disrupt the medical, dental and industrial markets.
Scotland’s First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, presented Dave, who is also a research fellow at the University of the West of Scotland, with the top award in September 2017.
“Myself and all the team at novosound were thrilled to win Converge Challenge. The experience, expertise and support has been invaluable and it seems like only yesterday we were learning how to pitch as part of our training. We look forward to making sure this package of support takes novosound to the next level.”
Following on from their win, Gavin Newlands MP tabled an Early Day Motion in Westminster to highlight novosound's success. The team spent the rest of 2017 travelling around the UK, Europe and the USA to build a customer and partnership base with the global leaders in ultrasound sensors.
The company are opening their seed investment round in February and are planning to spin out of the University of the West of Scotland in the summer of 2018. They will pitch for investment and support at EIE18 – Scotland’s premier tech investor showcase.
