Pop Up! Scotland

Anne Rushing

University of Edinburgh

Founder and Creative Director, Anne Rushing started Pop Up! Scotland in 2013 after completing her MFA in Glass at the Edinburgh College of Art. Having previously worked as a glassblower, Anne created her social enterprise to help promote arts engagement throughout Scotland!

As well as running their own events, Pop Up! Scotland provide unique content for events and festivals by collaborating with artists, galleries, businesses, governments and individuals to make arts more accessible.

Pop Up! Scotland has received business support from LAUNCH.Ed at the University of Edinburgh and were crowned the first-ever winners of our Social Enterprise category in 2014.

“Converge Challenge was a great experience for us. The training we received was a great initial start in understanding the business side of what was a passion project. We were also introduced to so many great people, both fellow entrepreneurs and people well placed in the business world across Scotland. It’s given us opportunities to expand and continue developing even three years on.”

They have delivered a whole host of original collaborative projects, including weekly pub craft workshops, an open studio complete with art supplies for both professionals and amateurs, and an epic family pop-up event to chalk the main pathways in Edinburgh!

Over the past year Pop Up! Scotland has developed a weekly event to get people out of the house and be more creative: Pub Craft Club. It runs every Tuesday at Paradise Palms and Pop Up! is working on expanding it across the central belt of Scotland. Pop Up! is also expanding it’s unDependence Film Festival to Stirling. The film festival aims to engage more people in independent film by moving out of the art house cinemas and into community spaces. Recent collaborators include Dutch University NHTV; Epic Chalk Day with EKoS; the Keyring Collective; GranDram; Square Peg and more.
